With 8,000 km of coastline and thousands of beaches to choose from - most of them lying under the palm trees in the tropics - we asked 10 experts to choose their favorite , from the shore of the river in the Amazon down to one of the coolest beach town country it , Florianópolis . 1 . Alter do Chao , Pará

Brazil is not the best beach in Rio de Janeiro or the sun - bathing the north - east . It's not even on the beach . It is located on the river in the heart of the Amazon rain forest . About 30 km from the city of Santarem rainforest , Alter do Chao is the answer to the Caribbean jungle . After a week hiding in the woods , Alter do Chao is the perfect place to relax : you can lounge on the beach of the river in the morning , gorge themselves on local grilled fish in the afternoon and retreated to one of the area's many charming pousadas at night . 1,100 km coastline of Bahia state is speckled with spectacular beach . I love long beach walks and my favorites are Taipus de Fora in the Marau Peninsula . Long sweep of beach ending in a beautiful promontory where an exposed reef by the tide, revealing a large sheltered natural pool , offers beautiful snorkeling and tropical fish . South, past the headland, sandy beach goes on and on , and I walked on and on , stopping to refresh . I'm back , I always stop at the Bar das Meninas , cool bar restaurant located in front of the rock pools with creative seafood menu , cocktails and cold beer windy . Marau is a native word meaning " the light of the sun at dawn " is. Even more spectacular though is the light of the full moon How . Here the moon seems closer and larger than they should , flooded beaches and tide pools in the soft light .

There is a saying by a remote Brazilian beach : first go hippies , the yachties , the French ... Caraiva still in the discovery stage of the happy - hippy and even then only for a brief period in the summer . From the wooden stairs walkways take you to a sandy beach , a favorite with surfers , body surfers and bathers local ( most tourists stick to Ipanema or Copacabana ) . Ipanema is one of the few beaches that are lit at night so that the dip late at night is also a possibility . End the day sipping a caipirinha and biting on shrimp in one pastel outdoor tables in the restaurant Azul Marinho , the only beachfront restaurant in Arpoador and Ipanema , with a fantastic view of the sea where you can also watch a group of local kids practicing capoeira and a small band of musicians .

8 Praia da Fazenda , state of São Paulo

Half way between the two largest cities in Latin America , Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo , but really a world apart , lies one of the great natural gems Brazil , where protected , heavily forested coastal mountains vertiginously down to the beach and the blue sea . Praia da Fazenda easy arc across the bay comprehensive small , traditional fishing village Picinguaba . Wade across the river - to catch a flash of green in between mangrove kingfisher - and two miles of deserted beaches lie ahead . For right- disturbed forests and mountains ; on the left side of your bay , coconut spread topped island and fish jumping . The thing I love about this place : walking at dawn you feel like the only one for a hundred miles; cold , delicious natural spring at the end ; gentle rise and a place that provides a perfect place for surfing longboard ; and watch schools of dolphins from the kayak , and once even a whale!

You have to walk a fair way to arrive at his beach - but do not think of it as punishment . Florianópolis island has more than 42 stunning beaches . Praia Mole , the most popular in the heart of " Floripa " and is surrounded by green mountains , where the young and beautiful head . But my favorite is Lagoinha do Leste , a deserted beach in the south of the island , an hour's hike away . This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil , and supported by the Atlantic rain forest , the dunes , sand dunes , lakes and rocky beaches . Perfect for camping (no camp , field anywhere) or for a day trip . And after a track or boat ride back , you can finish the day eating at Arantes , the most popular seafood restaurants in Florianopolis .
